With a new year, so begins the new reading challenge from Goodreads. It is with a heavy heart that I shared this to my blog, I could not fulfill my 2020 Goodreads reading challenge (42/50 - not bad honestly). I don't want to make any excuses, so the only option is to keep reading and doing my best in 2021. #thatsthespirit
To match up the previous year's challenge, this year is also going to be 50 books. Same old, same old qua numbers, but this year's reading lists are more challenging since many books will be in Dutch! Spoiler alert: it's not my intention to go this way. However, since I depend a lot on the local library in my city, and since I live in the Dutch part of Belgium, it makes sense that the library has mainly the Dutch version of the books I want to read. Of course, there are some English ones, but so far 80% of books listed on my library account wishlist are Dutch ones. So, what can I do? Just keep reading! Luckily, I also plan to improve my reading skills and I feel that this is a perfect opportunity to do so, on top of broadening my vocabularies. Thus, these I will say to myself: good luck and have fun!
Not only do I plan to borrow some books, I'd like also to buy some books. I set aside a couple of euros to buy books every month, and the immediate goal is to buy the complete series of Harry Potter in Dutch. I also plan to buy some English books, but I feel that it would be hard for me to send them to Indonesia when I finish my study, not to mention that it can be costly. So, I plan to order them online sent them directly to Indonesia (likely via booksdepository, since it offers free delivery around the world albeit at a slightly more expensive price, or Indonesia's Periplus bookstore). There should be a time when I order an English book but read it beforehand in the Dutch version. That should be silly, but it's possible.
This year, I will also plan to write book reviews. Not all the books, of course, only the selected ones. Yes, since I'll be reading Dutch books, so I will try to give my review in Dutch as well. This is good for me after all. I'm still considering whether I should give the English version under the Dutch one or not, but you'll see it soon when the text is posted. Perhaps... I will put the English one when I feel like doing it, but we'll just see!
